1. Do I need any experience to join?
No. This weekend is for anyone curious about being more present, playful, and connected. Impro experience or none at all—you’re welcome.
2. What if I’m shy, nervous, or feel out of place?
That’s completely fine. This retreat is built to include you exactly as you are. Nothing to prove, nothing to perform. Just start where you are and let things unfold.
3. Will I have to perform or be funny?
No. This isn’t theatre camp. It’s about attention, sensation, and expression. Sometimes things will be funny, but we’re not aiming for it.
4. What actually happens during the day?
We breathe, stretch, move, play, speak, rest. Some games are full-body and wordless. Others are about listening, timing, presence. There’s food, silence, laughter, and space to do nothing at all.
5. What should I bring?
Clothes you can move and rest in. Shoes or boots for walking. A bottle for water. Anything that helps you feel at ease. We’ll take care of the rest.
6. Can I come for one day only?
No—this is a shared journey. We begin together, we finish together. That’s part of the work.
7. What do people leave with?
A quieter mind. Looser body. Sharper attention. A sense of having been part of something real.
8. How many people will be there?
It’s a small group—around 6 to 8 people. Enough to play, small enough to stay close.
This isn’t a workshop about performance. It’s about the deep relief of presence. Of being real, without the armour. With space to rest, to move, to laugh, and to reconnect—with yourself, with others, with now.
Benefits of Bold and Physically Engaged Improvisation:
After years of teaching improv, we said "no" to levels in our improv classes.
After all, improvisation isn't a linear process, so why should we teach it linearly? Moreover, improv levels say nothing about an individual's capacity to work with others. People can learn a lot from each other, regardless of their history with improv. What you require to take our classes is not improv experience, but courage, consideration, and curiosity.
With that in mind, we've replaced levels with the following three approaches, open to everyone from beginners to experienced improvisers:
You will find aspects of all these approaches in everything we do, but each improv learning event will emphasise one of them.
Remy Bertrand is part of a select group of improvisation facilitators with over 10,000 hours of teaching experience. Based in London, UK, Remy has been teaching and training people in improvisation internationally since 2006 through Imprology, as well as in drama schools, universities, charities, and other institutions. He has directed several large-scale improvised performances with Zootrophic, a multi-disciplinary ensemble, and has co-directed improvised short films with Peter Snowdon. Remy also hosts (Love Explosion), an improvised open-stage show.
His recent training includes work with John Wright (Impro, Clown), Kate Hilder and Sten Rudstrom (Action Theatre), Mary Overlie (Six Viewpoints), Lee Simpson (Open Space, Impro), Lucy Hopkins (Clown), and Punchdrunk (Immersive Theatre).
Remy believes his greatest teachers have been his students. He approaches improvisation as a transformational process, emphasising pleasure, curiosity, and courage. Many of his students have gone on to become professional performers, directors, and educators, while others have applied improvisation skills in fields such as psychotherapy, corporate training, and community engagement. Alumni of his workshops have created their own theatre companies, toured internationally, and developed innovative projects that blend improvisation with film, music, and social activism.
