Are you a company of three to six improvisers (theatre, music, and/or movement) looking for a beautiful R&D space where you can get away from it all and spend a week in nature to develop your next improvisation project?

Do you and your team enjoy woodwork, gardening, painting and general maintenance?

Would you be happy to share the result of your research at the end of your residency in an informal setting with friends, neighbours and other artists?

Canole Theatre is a new space in Dordogne, France, near Monpazier. We offer training in theatre clowning, and improvisation. We intend to bring shows and cultural activities in French and English to this region, home to British, Dutch, and French people. Our space is big and wild, and we wish to welcome and support artists who want to help us maintain, restore, and embellish it.

We offer:

• 1 week of free accommodation for a minimum of three and up to six people in a wooden chalet with three bedrooms, a bathroom, and a kitchenette.
• 2 Rehearsal spaces:
  • 1 heated 70 square meters indoor space
  • 1 large open barn with a 4 x 5 m stage and a lighting rig.
• 2 hectares of fields and garden.
• 2 cats, one dog, and probably some horses.
• Monpazier medieval village, a 5-min walk away.

In exchange: for three hours of your daily time to help with gardening and maintenance.

Food is not included except for the welcome meal, but we will arrange your transport to and from Bergerac Airport or the train station, and a trip to the shops.

Informal In Person Impro Jam

A four-hour journey into the heart of improvisation, "Now or Never" invites you to rediscover the joy of play, the beauty of improvisation, and the transformative power of connection.

Through original exercises and guided explorations, you'll build trust with your partners, engage fully with your intuitions and tap into your audience's "secret wishes" to improvise compelling scenes and stories.

This workshop celebrates the courage to leap into the unknown, conjuring an environment where mistakes become gifts and collaboration sparks magic.

Whether you're a performer seeking fresh inspiration or simply someone eager to explore the art of being present, "Now or Never" offers a supportive space to practice active listening, fearless vulnerability, and the art of doing rather than trying. Imprology unique approach to improvisation eliminates pre-planning and second-guessing to empower performers with a “now or never” approach to improvisation.

Level

After years of teaching improv, we said "no" to levels in our improv classes.

After all, improvisation isn't a linear process, so why should we teach it linearly? Moreover, improv levels say nothing about an individual's capacity to work with others. People can learn a lot from each other, regardless of their history with improv. What you require to take our classes is not improv experience, but courage, consideration, and curiosity.

With that in mind, we've replaced levels with the following three approaches, open to everyone from beginners to experienced improvisers:

Informal

Exploring connections and togetherness.

Essential

Exploring spontaneity and self-expression.

Ensemble

Exploring storytelling and collective expression.

You will find aspects of all these approaches in everything we do, but each improv learning event will emphasise one of them.

Informal In Person Impro Jam

Your improv teacher, Remy Bertrand, is in the small club of improvisation facilitators with more than 10,000 hours of teaching experience. Currently based in London, UK, Remy has been teaching and training people in improvisation internationally since 2006 with Imprology, as well as in drama schools, universities, charities, and other institutions. He has directed several large-scale improvised performances with Zootrophic, a multi-discipline ensemble. Remy also has co-directed improvised short films with Peter Snowdon and is hosting Love Explosion, an improvised open-stage show.

Remy has trained most recently with John Write (Impro, Clown) Kate Hilder and Sten Rudstrom (Action Theatre) Mary Overlie (Six Viewpoints), Lee Simpson (Open Space, Impro), Lucy Hopkins (Clown) and Punch Drunk (Immersive Theatre).

Remy has learned most from his students and teaches improvisation as a transformational process focusing on pleasure, curiosity and courage.
