1. Do I need any experience to join?
No. This weekend is for anyone curious about being more present, playful, and connected. Impro experience or none at all—you’re welcome. Some participants have been doing it for years, and some are just starting.
2. What if I’m shy, nervous, or feel out of place?
That’s completely fine. This retreat is built to include you exactly as you are. Nothing to prove, nothing to perform. Just start where you are and let things unfold.
3. Will I have to perform?
Not if you don't want to. It's all Open Space: you only do what feels right for you. Sometimes things will be funny, but we’re not aiming for it.

5. What actually happens during a class?
We breathe, stretch, move, play, speak, and rest. Some games are full-body and wordless. Others are about listening, timing, and presence. If it's a retreat, there’s food, silence, laughter, and space to do nothing at all.
6. What should I bring?
Clothes that you can move and rest in. If it's a retreat, shoes or boots for walking, swimsuit, mosquito repellent, allergy medication if needed and anything that helps you feel at ease. We’ll take care of the rest.
7. What do people leave with?
A quieter mind. Looser body. Sharper attention. A sense of having been part of something real.
8. How many people will be there?
Usually around 6 to 8 people for a class or a retreat. Enough to play, small enough to stay close. It can be much more in a jam, six to 40 in our experience.
Under the guidance of an experienced facilitator, this retreat will explore how narratives emerge effortlessly when we embrace the unpredictable and trust the flow of our sensations, thoughts, intuition, and surroundings. You'll work with original techniques and input inspired by Viewpoints, Action Theatre and Playback Theatre, blending the power of presence, breath, and creative awareness to craft improvised stories that are both novel and deeply personal.
Each day offers a dynamic mix of exercises, including:

Serendipitous Play: Engage with unexpected prompts, natural elements, and chance encounters to inform your storytelling.
Group Improvisation: Collaborate with others to weave collective tales that combine shared experiences with unique perspectives.
Solo Discovery: Step into moments of stillness and solitude, allowing personal stories to emerge from within.
Set against the backdrop of beautiful rural landscapes, this retreat invites you to connect with the environment as a stage and a source of inspiration. Whether walking in open fields or in a Medieval village, sitting by a campfire or simply breathing in the quiet beauty of nature, you'll discover how internal and external stimuli can spark and shape improvised narratives.

After years of teaching improv, we stopped using levels in our classes. Improvisation is not a linear process, so there is no reason to teach it linearly. Levels also say very little about a person’s capacity to work with others. We all know highly experienced improvisers who struggle to give space and time, and beginners who listen, adapt, and support with great care. We can learn from one another regardless of experience. What is required to take our classes is not background, but courage, consideration, and curiosity.
Instead of levels, we work with the following approaches, all open to beginners and experienced improvisers alike:
Exploring connection and togetherness.
Exploring spontaneity and self-expression.
Exploring storytelling and collective expression.
You will find aspects of all these approaches in everything we do, but each improv learning event places the emphasis on one of them.
Remy Bertrand is part of a select group of improvisation facilitators with over 10,000 hours of teaching experience. Based in London, UK, Remy has been teaching and training people in improvisation internationally since 2006 through Imprology, as well as in drama schools, universities, charities, and other institutions. He has directed several large-scale improvised performances with Zootrophic, a multi-disciplinary ensemble, and has co-directed improvised short films with Peter Snowdon. Remy also hosts (Love Explosion), an improvised open-stage show.
His recent training includes work with John Wright (Impro, Clown), Kate Hilder and Sten Rudstrom (Action Theatre), Mary Overlie (Six Viewpoints), Lee Simpson (Open Space, Impro), Lucy Hopkins (Clown), and Punchdrunk (Immersive Theatre).
Remy believes his greatest teachers have been his students. He approaches improvisation as a transformational process, emphasising pleasure, curiosity, and courage. Many of his students have gone on to become professional performers, directors, and educators, while others have applied improvisation skills in fields such as psychotherapy, corporate training, and community engagement. Alumni of his workshops have created their own theatre companies, toured internationally, and developed innovative projects that blend improvisation with film, music, and social activism.
