Richard Hague
What is your name?
Richard Hague aka Chad or The Chadster
Where do you live and work?
I have lived on The Murder Mile in Clapton since 2000….and have yet to be shot at!
What is your day job?
I was an actor for 25 years, but have reluctantly returned to the surveying profession in a bid to pay my rent, Council Tax, gas and electricity bills, restaurant tabs, etc etc
How did you discover improvisation?
I joined a drama club in Newcastle as a school boy; we regularly worked up material through improvisation and I found I was quite good at making people laugh. Reading Keith Johnstone's book 'Impro' was also an important part of that discovery.
How do you practice improvisation?
I enjoy Remy's classes at Imprology….they keep me sane after a week's surveying!
How did you learn?
It comes naturally!
Any advice for beginners?
Give it a go….it'll boost your self-confidence and you'll have a giggle into the bargain…
What is your favourite improvisation quote?
Less is More
The most satisfying story or scene you ever improvised in?
Blimey….too many to recount. I remember a moment in a rock 'n roll musical I did at the New Vic Theatre in Stoke. I played Ronnie Angel, the leader of a rock band, and amongst others had to sing and play guitar on Shakin' All Over. On first night, I ended a scene, moved to the band stage and donned my Fender Stratocaster….the song starts with the famous guitar riff, and that leads the band in. However, just as I was about to launch into it, my guitar strap came off. Thinking on my feet, I delivered the guitar line verbally down the microphone and won a round of applause….it even got mentioned in the reviews!!!
